FAQ

What is Ilkmade?

Ilkmade is a global community of Politics and International Relations professionals and students. An ilk is a tribe or a group that shares a common purpose. Our mission is to provide a platform where people in common industries can share ideas on career development and advance their work. Ilkmade does this in the following three ways:

  • Digital Community - Ilkmade’s moderated LinkedIn group to share career resources in the Politics, International Relations, and Development fields.
  • The Classifieds - our blog, updated weekly with articles written by industry experts and monthly international job listings.
  • Ilkmade Sessions - Mentorship service for people at all stages of their careers. Our sessions include CV and cover letter reviews, school application, and graduate program guidance; career transition dos and don’ts, and helping you get a foot in the door at desired organizations and companies.

We’re always looking for fantastic writers and interesting article ideas! To submit an article for consideration, please email contact@ilkmade.com with the following information.

  • Tell us about yourself, your relevant background and work experience, and why you’re keen to write this article.
  • Pitch us your article idea: title of the article, a sample introduction and then a brief outline of the rest of the piece. Please do not send a full draft.
  • Send us two samples of your previous writing either as an email attachment or URL link to the published piece online.
  • Include your LinkedIn profile so that we can verify who you are.

At the start of every month, we publish job listings and internship opportunities across many sectors (except for academic ones found easily on association boards). We target organizations that value Politics and IR degree holders across the world. If you have an open listing accessible with a URL, please send us a link at contact@ilkmade.com, and we will try to include it in our upcoming month’s listings.

International Relations is a niche field of study and work that requires some insider knowledge on how and where people in the profession interact. While a great career coach can give you general advice on how to tackle tasks more effectively, an Ilkmade Mentor can provide valuable, highly-targeted insights on your chosen career path within the International Relations and Politics space, leveraging their networks to help you succeed.

This depends on your needs as we tailor each Session to your unique goals. If you’re curious about which Session would be best for you, email us at contact@ilkmade.com and we’ll provide guidance. Working with a Mentor is a great way to get started on mapping your career or to polish a CV intended for a job application. We offer pay as you go Sessions as well as a Starter Pack of 3 Sessions at a discounted rate.

Our Experts are powerhouse leaders and have been vetted by Ilkmade as passionate career resources in their fields (from international NGOs to top research consultants). Their time is valuable. An Expert Session includes the following:

  • 30-minute Mentor Session to select an Expert and define your goals during the Expert Session. We help you create a list of questions to gain meaningful answers that will help you make the right career decisions.
  • Mentor introduces you to your chosen Expert.
  • Ilkmade schedules and sets up preferred a call convenient for you and the Expert. No back and forth emailing, we do all that for you.
  • A strategic 20-minute Expert Session to get the targeted guidance and opportunities you need to move on to new career heights.

We understand that this is a big investment. We trust that our Mentor and selected Experts will help you achieve your career goals. However, if you do not have a great experience, we will work with you to make it right. If you need to cancel or reschedule your Session, we ask that you do so at least 24 hours before your scheduled Session so our Mentor and Experts can make other arrangements.
