The midnight of 14th and 15th August 1947 saw the emergence of two independent states of India and Pakistan but sowed seeds of a protracted conflict between the two - the dispute over the erstwhile Princely State of Jammu & Kashmir. Both nuclear archrivals, India and Pakistan claim control over this territory and fought wars on several dimensions with United States diplomatically mediating many a time to help resolve this issue. The book under review is the first of its kind attempt to chronicle the role that the United States has played in resolving the issue. While the author is aware of the fact that Kashmir is no longer a major issue for the United States but at the same time there is a dire need to bring an end to this seventy-year-long conflict that has the potential of turning into a nuclear conflict if left unattended to.
